The two rides I loved the most were the Cyclone and the old Hell Hole.Anything else besides these two rides were kid stuff. Especially the Hell Hole, it was the only real ride at Coney. It took the meaning "Ride at Your Own Risk" to a new level, especially with the floor dropping as you spun around and around. |

"Good ol' Heypaul" Well thanks... In a brief NY Times article today, the reporter had heard that Astroland was sold for about $30 million. That was the first dollar value I've seen. My favorite ride at Astroland to watch is the Scrambler, which is this centrifuge like spinning ride with cars at the end of several long arms. I'm just intrigued at how close the cars come to side-swiping each other. |

They are only required to build a lead shielded foundation for the market-rate low-income towers. I couldn't get that deal for properties that I own. In reality the radium deposits are probably harmless. But the company that was there (Acme Atomic Specialties) may have had other radioactive products and byproducts. They were specially licensed to sell uranium and plutonium to manufacturers of military equipment before the federal government stopped the practice in 1963. No one knows how much they sold because they kept lousy records. They relocated to Alabama in 1967 to a larger and safer facility and have since gone out of business. |

They were in a small place on Shell Road. I remember those radioactive symbols on the building. Remember at one time there were numerous small defense contractors in the city. The poor people living in the market rate tower will be getting a good deal, basically a subsidized rent. They shouldn't complain. |

I read several months back that Nathan's Corp, sold a big empty piece of property, directly behind the hot-dog stand to a developer for luxury housing.This is a rectagular piece just to the south of the stand and was used as a flea market when the MOD did their Sunset over Stillwell trip about 2 years ago. |
