Fred,

Ted Cruz, one evening in 2013, when there were no bills on the floor seeking cloture votes, once business had all but been concluded, requested and took the floor to speak. He then yammered all night in a self-styled "filibuster" against ACA, which had been passed some three years prior and was being implemented before he took office. That's just yammering.

That is NOT a filibuster, which is a blocking motion to prevent a final passage vote on a bill or nomination under Senate rules. In the far saner past, it required holding the floor personally through continued speaking until a vote requiring a majority of 60 to regain the floor and continue business (the cloture vote), but in its modern practice merely the threat of someone like Ted Cruz keeping the CSPAN2 techs at work and the chamber lit all night so they could read the phonebook at a camera is sufficient. The overtime would break the budget.

Sorry you blew it,
Bingbong

"Access to healthcare" requires more than the existence of providers. The problem with American healthcare has never been a lack of healthcare facilities— the problem is that many Americans can't afford those facilities.

And since Perry has rejected the expansion of Medicaid under the ACA, it's a fair bet that access to health care in Texas isn't very good (unless you're rich). Given that Texas has a large population and an extremely high poverty rate, that lack of Medicaid is hurting a lot of people.

Wrong. Had you read what said, a new party that is dedicated to the preservation of rights as well as the enabling of individuals to make and improve their way in life is needed, along with the existing Democrats. Filibustering.

When you stand up and talk at great length for the purpose of blocking a bill, that's filibustering. Whether it's a good thing or a bad thing depends on what's in the bill— Davis filibustering a bill to strip women of the right to bodily autonomy is a good thing, but Republicans (threatening to) filibuster a bill to provide health care is not a good thing.

On the other hand, when you stand up and talk at great length for the purpose of hearing your own voice echo in the Senate chamber and/or annoy your fellow Senators, that's just yammering.

Hold up, how exactly does getting rid of the Republicans create a one party system?

I've done the math, and I still can't see how several minus one comes out to one.

Although a one party system wouldn't be the end of the world— it would convince people to vote in primaries, which would be useful a few years later when the one party inevitably splits or a new party inevitably arises.
