New 7-Eleven Activity In Brooklyn (Photos)

There's one open and a few under construction. I did not bother taking the "under construction" shots where no signs were up yet...

Currently open on Flatbush Avenue between Martense Street and Linden Boulevard:

And currently under construction at the corner of Coney Island Avenue and Beverly Road:

Also under construction are locations at Cropsey Avenue & 20th Avenue as well as at Empire Boulevard & Bedford Avenue. There is also supposed to be one opening later this month on Brighton Beach Avenue near Coney Island Avenue. but I didn't feel like going there today to check it out. And further into the future, there is one planned to open in June at 1239 Fulton Street (between Bedford & Nostrand)...

The second photo almost looks like a suburban 7-Eleven. Was that a gas station?

It was a local auto parts store called "Automotive City". Here's a shot from a few months ago, courtesy of Ditmas Park Corner:

when will you be in Queens? The one on Eliot and Metropolitan is soon to open. They have the Help Wanted sign in the window.

I actually passed by there earlier today, but I was traveling by car and I didn't have the patience to look for parking to take a photo. I felt kind of funny parking in the lot of the not yet open store... :-)

Parking? Just park in their lot. It's open. I pulled in and walked up to read the sign.

Yeah, I know the lot was open but I never know when some idiot security guard or worker might give me a hard time, especially if they see me walking away from the car to get a photo!

Neither of the ones pictured, but the one not pictured at Empire & Bedford. Yes, it's gonna be located across Empire from the old Ebbet's Field...

when are you going back to the Eliot and Metropolitan location? I'd love to be there if I'm in NYC when you go.

I'm not sure. I usually don't decide until a day or two before I go. And since most of Queens already has a good number of 7-Elevens, it's not really a priority for me. Unless more happen to open in Jamaica/southeast Queens or the Rockaways.

My old neighborhood!

Wonder which corner. There was (still is I think) an Exxon station on the northeast corner. Used to be a bowling alley (long gone) on the southwest corner. I think a Firestone place on the NW corner. I forgot what was/is on the southeast corner.

Google Street View (from June 2011):

Firestone place is still there! Exxon station is now a Gulf station. I guess maybe the 7-11 will go at the southeast corner?

I lived in that area officially from 1964 to 1976. Only was actually in residence June 1964-June 1971, and again June 1975-August 1976, was in college out of town September 1975-May 1976, although I came home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Last time I was actually at that intersection was July 1990.

fiogf49gjkf0d
You are correct, that Exxon station is now a Gulf station. A few years back, as part of the agreement of the merger, ExxonMobil had to keep only one brand or the other in the areas where they had both. So in NY and New England, they got rid of the Exxons and in NJ and the Mid Atlantic, they got rid of the Mobils. Although recently, I've bveen seeing Mobils popping up in NJ and an Exxon popping up in Brooklyn... I don't know how that is legal... BTW, the upcoming 7-Eleven is going to be in a new strip center located diagonally across from the old Exxon station. So that would be the southwest corner...

Oh OK, thanks. That's where the bowling alley was, but I think that building was torn down some time ago (was still there when I left in 1976, but the last time I was at that intersection in 1990 , it was already gone). I think I heard it may have burned down? Not sure about that, though.
