Why Are We Boycotting Florida, again?

Posted by Train Dude on Tue Jul 16 15:15:33 2013

fiogf49gjkf0d
With some here calling for us to boycott Florida, I just want to be clear as to why we are considering the boycott. We didn't decide to boycott Florida before Trayvon Martin died. We didn't decide to boycott Florida when the Sanford Police decided not to arrest George Zimmerman for Trayvon's death. We didn't decide to boycott Florida when they bypassed the grand jury and charged George Zimmerman with murder. We didn't decide to boycott Florida when they put George Zimmerman on trial for murder. So now that George Zimmerman has been found innocent, we've decided to boycott Florida? Do you mean to say that we are going to boycott a state because we disagree with the decision of 6 people out of a population of 19.3 million. What else has changed? I really don't know if a boycott makes a hell of a lot of sense to me.

Not guilty is NOT innocent. Trayvon Martin IS innocent. Zimmerman killed a child. That death was unwarranted. That is NOT innocent.

The calls for boycotting Floriduh are based on their laws, laws that make it unsafe for families as they allow murderers of children to walk away from their crimes. When those laws change, people and families will return.

I can appreciate that all individuals are entitled to their opinion. That said, I think boycotts are not at all stupid, although the reason(s) may or may not be questionable. One of the most famous boycotts, the bus boycott of 1955/56 was very important, and thankfully, it resulted in some racist laws being ruled unconstitutional.

If the government of Floriduh feels the weight of reduced finances, if business owners are stressed or go under causing job loss, if the people experience lost income and unemployment there will be enough of a hue and cry to force the government to rescind their stupid vigilante-enabling laws and make the place safe for families again.

This is a different case. Zimmerman admitted from the beginning that he DID kill MO Martin. There is no way any killer can be considered innocent of anything, killing a living breathing human being the supreme violent act. Killing a child is apparently not criminal in Floriduh if one can somehow claim they feared bodily harm (not even possible loss of life).

Curious that you say nothing about justice for the victim's family.

Killing a person is not always illegal and is not the "supreme violent act." People can kill in self-defense.

You obviously didn't bother researching the "great bodily harm" standard in Florida. Characterizing it as only bodily harm is disingenuous.
