I was pulled over in a Black neighborhood in Suffolk for that exact reason back in the 80's after dropping a friend from work off home because his car broke down and was at the shop. The cops assumed that because I was white, I was "there to buy drugs" or pick up a prostitute I guess, so they pulled me over, asked for my license, and asked me 'what I was doing there". I told them I had just dropped my friend off who didn't have a car because it was at the mechanic. He said, okay, gave me my license back, and I was on my way.I was racially stereotyped. Oh the horror. |
