Heh. Wiseass ... OK ... Mister Science to the rescue ... the solution is dilution ... reservoirs have a large amount of water and thus any such "gifts" are highly diluted as opposed to a running stream where the concentrations would be much greater. And solid fecals tend to settle rather than dilute.BUT ... that's IN your water anyway. Reservoir-based drinking systems have filtration plants and chlorination specifically for this reason. And I believe NYC's water *is* chlorinated because of this. If it were filtered too, then those little teeny tiny bits of bird gift would remain upstate instead of coming out your tap. But yeah, it's IN there. But owing to the sheer size of your water system, it's incredibly small in amount. For us upstate, the old Frank Zappa adage applies, "Watch out where the huskies go ... don't you eat that yellow snow." :) |
