"It would make more sense for the picture to show the Menorah, suggesting that the miracle of the oil lasting for eight days was a myth."That is a very good point but in the Hanukkah liturgy, the miracle is actually composed of two parts - the Maccabee victory over far superior military forces and the menorah oil burning for eight days. But as far as "myths" are concerned, you are correct, the menorah story would be more likely deemed a myth, as the Maccabee victory is historically verifiable, relatively speaking. |
