I like the city....but I did that for 25 years.... I no longer want to live in an urban environment...any urban environment. I like open space. I like being able to come home at any time of day or night and not worry about parking. I like having "neighbors", and can see them if I want to, but I can also have an argument without everyone knowing. I don't like living on top of people. I like grass over concrete. That said, I also couldn't live in a real "suburban" area either. I could never live in the south shore of Nassau or middle Nassau where it's like a suburban sprawl, you may as well live in the city then in my opinion. As for Long Island, most of Long Island, the bulk of it's space is still quite open. once you get past Patchogue on the South Shore, an perhaps Smithtown on the North Shore, it's quite open. East of the William Floyd corridor even more so. While there are plenty of congested, although well kept and nice areas of Nassau and western Suffolk, there are many more open and nice areas east. There are only a few pockets of "not so great" areas, mostly on the center spine. The North Shore is probably nicer than the South Shore in "scenery", but either one is fine in their own way. |
