Yes, my girlfriend lives on the Upper West Side, and that is most definitely true. She moved there from Center Moriches a few years back because she couldn't take the SCA types on the LIRR from Ronkonkoma anymore. It's made things a bit difficult of course, as there is no way I am moving to Manhattan, and for now, her job keeps here there, but it's been working out so far.Anyway, that said, I love my neighborhood. I am in between two totally different worlds. Across the tracks is one of the poorest, worst neighborhoods in Suffolk County. When I first moved here, and would drive home through the bad part of town late at night along Montauk Highway or Sta. Rd, the hookers would be walking up and down the road, as well as drug dealers.... You don't see that at all anymore, they really cleaned that all up. It really is much better. So I have that north of me, and south of me is a VERY affluent area, almost Hamptons like. Charlie Rose lives there (Liberal reporter), and I often see Isabella Rosselini (Movie Star, Ingrid Bergmann's daughter) walking on Main St in my town (the good part of town), and many other people....mostly rich Manhattan types..... So it really is the "best of both worlds" so to speak. |
