It went to hell there in the 60's, totally crumbled by the 80's, and has slowly (very slowly) been recovering since then (but it is still a high crime area compared to other parts).Sounds exactly like Asbury Park. I remember going to a cousins house in Amityville, RIGHT BY BRUNSWICK HOSPITAL!!!!! Went there twice a year for years. It was mostly black, and you could see some of the poverty(or lack of upkeep of homes), but you just didn't have the drive-by shootings and stabbings you hear about today. |
