If we're strictly discussing the Islips, no, they're simply designated places (aka hamlets by NYS government speak) with no governments of their own. They're unincorporated areas of the Town of Islip which performs basic services like parks, sanitation, animal control, development zoning, and some street maintenance, while police is done at the county level, and fire and schools are run by special districts that generally correspond to the designated places. |
