"...because the private railroads could do it again."But they wont. Strip all those regulations and the freight railroads still would not want to run passenger trains. Passenger/intercity trains are proven moneylosers worldwide. I cant think of one country that dosent give $$$ handouts to support the running of its passenger trains. Back to the USA, the cost of labor alone would be a big enough deterrent to keep freight RRs running freight trains and not passenger. The bottom line is freight RRs would not want to take on an operation thats been a proven money loser since WWII regardless of any regulations that may be lifted. |
