The environment is a public good, being both non-rival and non-excludable, and is therefore within the proper ambit of government regulation.

I don’t care about seat belt laws as I would always wear a seat belt. What pisses me off is the latest Tesla “recall” that screams whenever I look away from the road while on autopilot. What the fuck is the point then?

But those things have nothing to do with each other. I can be for one form of government regulation, namely limiting harmful emissions into the atmosphere, but against others. Even so, it’s entirely a legitimate power of our government to charge for the use of roads even if I personally hate it.
