Bruno Sammartino was the last professional wrestling champion that I remember who had no gimmicky shtick. After him I remember Bob Backlund who was not a showman like those who followed but not quite the pure wrestler that Bruno portrayed. Once you get to hulk hogan and machoman Randy savage, it became a Howard stern type of soap opera. |
