Exporting the practice of slavery to North America was a strictly European practice. Even in the 17th century, chattel slavery was known to be wrong, but that didn't stop it from coming to the "New World". Preserving white superiority and keeping Black people in their "place" as a labor source was apparently high on the list of priorities for the colonizers of Virginia. |
