Remember the last 2 years were Super Beetle convertibles. The price of a sedan more than doubled from '67 to '77. They couldn't meet the strict regulations enacted by the federal government. An air cooled 911 could afford the necessary smog equipment before a beetle buyer could I'm sure. Those Mexican bugs are illegal here because they don't meet the regs. Typically they change out the pan to a 70s model and title them as a 1973 or later to work around those pesky laws. |
