"Nazi" was short for the "National-Sozialistische" in "National-Sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiter-Partei". It was a counter to the "Sozi" abbreviation of Germany's Social Democrats and coined by the NSDAP's opponents.And yes, it should be capitalized. |
