We need to stop with this characterization of our political opponents as being "Loony", having "mental disorders", etc. Mostly, the right says it about the left, but sometimes it's the other way around as well. We need to acknowledge that the other side consists of people whose opinions deserve to be taken seriously, not just dismissed. I liked the Oprah Winfrey segment on 60 minutes last week, about a group of people who are trying to do that. In this case, it is the heightened tensions in this country that caused this misperception. Let's try to lower them, not inflame them further. |
