Let's not confuse things. Setting social security aside for now, let's look at the test of your comments.

In the depths of the depression, Roosevelt created public works programs to get people income.

In 1961, President Kennedy said, "ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.'

During the obama administration the script was flipped. Whereas prior democratic administrations stressed work and self reliance, look what the current democratic party stresses. Dependency on government and government handouts.
