Going further inland would result in a no man's land between the border and the canal that would result in massive dislocation of US citizens on the US side of the border.Not many Americans live south of an under-5000' route across NM. Anyway, no more of an isolator than the Welland Canal. I don't know if they still have toll bridges across it, but when I was young I was indignant that you had to pay toll to cross something artificial. |
