If they don't have a relative who can do it (who most likely has kids and work of their own), that means a babysitter which costs money, or it means leaving the kids alone, which means getting arrested and having your kids taken by child welfare. We'd all like a job which covers all those expenses right off the bat, but Real Life generally does not work that way. |
