Child support for unmarried (and some married) men is taxation without the right to vote for citizens.So... what? You want the right to vote for your kids? Taxation is a moral and legal obligation. Child support is a moral and legal obligation. The right to vote is a moral and legal right which isn't actually related to taxation— the slogan "no taxation without representation" refers to the fact that expecting people to uphold their obligations without respecting their rights is unfair, not because taxation is a business transaction wherein one purchases the right to vote. Taxes are an obligation of citizenship; voting is a right of citizenship. Child support is an obligation of parenthood; if there are any equivalent rights, I can't think of them offhand. I'll assume you already know that and why custody and visitation are not rights to which every parent is entitled. |
