The Gore bill did nothing for them [railroads].It wrecked them. he wanted was to reimburse the railroads... Several people have noted that Eisenhower's private views were far more progressive than his public stances. The rationale for these differences has been that he accepted his advisors' cost estimates for his momentary progressive impulse. Remember what Eisenhower's Secretary of Defence said: "What's good for General Motors is good for the country." |
