Stem Cell: We should be researching this to determine if there's any use for them.Gun Control: Useless fact...my paternal grandfather was a gun owner back in Haiti. Obviously, there's no need for cop killer bullets and the like, but we obviously need minimum federal standards for gun purchasing. But, frankly, I am against any ban on guns. As for the Second Amendment nuts, the military has Apaches, F-16s, et alia. Your pissant weapons will do nothing. Abortion Choice: Pro-choice, no parental notification, and abortions paid for by medicaid. Federal Healthcare: This is a dicey proposition. Obviously, health care costs are spiraling out of control here in the States. Canadian style single-payer, single-tier system works for basic care and medium level services, but not expensive needs. One option would be to emulate the French system which as been ranked by the WHO as one of the best in the world. Essentially, everybody is covered, but private insurance and hospitals are availible to those who want to pay for it. Shortages aren't common (except in rural areas), and the people seem to be rather content. It's paid for with taxes taken from withholding (like Medicaid/care) and co-pays that are taken at each visit. Admittedly, I'd like to see what becomes of Mitt Romney's proposal to force uninsured citizens of Massachusetts to purchase health insurance. Port Sale: I'll duck this one. Let's just say I'm weary of a State-owned company doing this. Soc. Sec. Reform: See here:. Morning After: It should be availible OTC. Gay Marriage: Legalize it. Marriage is a state contract. If heterosexuals are stupid enough to get married, why shouldn't gay people? Public Smoking Ban: I really couldn't be bothered. I don't smoke, but I hang around smokers. Patriot Act: Again another dicey one. I think that we need a means of looking for terrorists, but it should be as close to proper legal guidelines as possible. To bend the Constitution to round up people on serious charges damages the credibility of the State, and makes us no better than terrorists. Creation in Schools: It doesn't belong in a science class no matter what the peasants think. Motorcycle Helmet Req: Go ahead and not use your helmets. Just make sure that your family members don't sue. La Grande Anse |
