PHOTOS - OCTD SuperBuses |
|
Posted by SignGuy on Thu Dec 20 12:20:15 2007 OCTD receieved two of these in 1987, 7001/7501 & 7002/7502. 7001-7002 were the trucks, 7501-7502 were the trailers. In 1993 they received 10 more, 7101-7110/7601-7610 (71xx-trucks, 76xx-trailers). They always operated together as 7001/7501 & 7002/7502 and 7101/7601 to 7110-7610. These were used exclusively on the 721 park & ride run from Fullerton to Los Angeles. One summer they did try them on the 43 on Harbor Blvd, but it didn't last more than a few months. In 1996 three (7108/7608-7110/7610) went to the Inland Empire Connection, and in 2001 7105/7605 went to Palm Springs. All have since been sold except 7102/7502 which is now used in maintenance for a mobile office. (All photos were taken by me unless otherwise noted.) 7001 & 7002 bowing for a photo. 7001/7501 (May 1988) 7001/7501 (July 1988) 7001/7501 (October 10, 1992)(C.H. Sorry, no interior pictures. The doors were controlled from inside the cab. There was cameras facing the doors and on the farebox, with monitors inside the cab. When boarding at the Fullerton Park & Ride, the operator would usually be outside watching the passengers board and pay the fare. Coming in from Los Angeles, the passengers would just board in LA and then pay in Fullerton as they exited, with the operator out by the doors. |

So was this to handle high capacity or something for the Superbus purpose?Interesting though at least the operator doesn't face assult if there's a problem while driving. |

If you had an exxtra tractor, and one in service had problems, just switch it out. Minimum down time. The trailers were avalaible in 27' and 46'. So after peak hours, switch the 46' with a smaller one. Or run two small ones, and drop one when not needed.OCTD had the 46' trailers, the only transit property that I know of that ever had these SuperBuses. Supposedly Walt Disney World had one, but I could never verify it nor have I seen photos of it. The LA County Sheriff also did have one. These two in were in addition to OCTD's, so a total of 14 46' trailers, and only 2 27' demo's that I know of. |
