Posted by SignGuy on Fri Dec 14 12:22:55 2007 The Orange County GMC T8H203's are 1980 models, the first in Orange County with wheel chair lifts. Some of them were in service up to last month. Probably a record for a 1980 RTS 03! (All photos were taken by me.)Original Paint Scheme As Delivered 3007 (April 9, 1980)  3035 (April 9, 1980)  After A/C Retrofit and Black Bumbers 3040  3076 - The big 6 was still like this when this bus was sold a few months agao. (June 1985)  3078  3079 (June 1985)  3109 - This was the first RTS with the experimental upper exhaust, which later all of the RTS' received.  3144 - This was the only RTS that had an electronic headsign at the time, a Transign TransDot demo.  3144 - Interior  3154 (May 31, 1982)  New Paint Scheme 3063 (May 1988)   3064  3066  3071 - The first RTS to receive the new paint scheme. (September 17, 1987)  3121 (May 1988)   3121  3125 (March 1989)  3141 (December 1989)  3173 (August 1989)  The RTS' are the only buses to see all 4 paint schemes. 1 - The original ornage stripe 2 - Orange, magenta, teal 3 - Orange, magenta, blue (teal was replaced with blue) 4 - Orange, blue (Current. Magenta was dropped with OCTA name.) Tomorrow, the 4000/4500 series Gillig's. |

OCTD changed paint schemes about 1987, with teal and magenta added to the orange. When the OCTA was formed and absorbed OCTD, they dropped the teal for blue, as the OCTA was already using blue. The magenta was actually a painted stripe. The decal was a orange and blue stripe with a clear area between the stripes so the magenta would show thru. Due to the strict California EPA regulations, painting is very restricted, so to circumvent the problem, they just eliminated the magenta altogether, just stretching the orange and blue to fill the gap.Side note: Pueblo (CO) paint scheme was very similar to the original OCTD scheme, but without the black outline of the orange stripe. |
