I actually preferred them and was disappointed when the MTA opted to get rid of them because the agency didn’t know how to maintain them properly. According to info I have, the Grummans performed quite well in NJ and other placed that purchased them. |

Great photo collection. Was the #1 photo Experimental highway cruiser with the rear "Donkey wheel", and were any put into production? The last photo, was this a propane powered bus? I ask because of the roof top addition. |

They did have problems that were corrected and they performed well for NJT and other agencies that brought the buses from NYCT. Those fixes were incorporated in the manufacture of following buses and they too performed well for MSBA and other agencies.NYCT kept one or two buses for the purposes of their lawsuit against Grumman (IIRC they were awarded $40M). |

Clearly, NYCTA maintenance practices were less than ideal in those days, and in their mind everything was the fault of Grumman. Funny how NYTransit bought 620 (of the 851 buses) and they did well for them. I hear the others (some in QCM, Cincinatti) and San Juan, PR also went on to serve many years. |

GM, Grumman and American Motors each provided a demo, but those specs were scrapped. The idea was that any transit agency purchasing buses with federal funding would have to have a bus with the specs of the TransBus. |
