Not from your list, but I would have liked to experience Metro Apple Express (MAX). Can anyone help me with its turn-by-turn routings? The routes were BM10, BM11, BM12, and BM15.Wikipedia vaguely mentions a QBM1 and QBM2. The QBM1 seems fascinating, starting deep within Breezy Point. How did it go through Brooklyn, if anyone knows? (Plus, how many runs per day and what years did it run?) Were any questions asked of people riding southbound to Breezy, given the neighborhood's relative exclusivity? |

Dad and two uncles drove for Public Service Coordinated Transport... it's what Dad was doing when I was born, so I was around buses literally from day one. Dad worked from Lake Street Garage (closed and demolished by NJT), his brother Donny worked at Miller Street Garage (now the Newark Public Works garage), and his brother-in-law Lee drove out of Orange Garage. Dad drove until 1967... newest buses he piloted were the 1966 X300s (GMC TDH-5304). Donny became a road supervisor in the 70s, then a garage shift supervisor. Lee drove until 1978 and once those 8V71 Flxibles arrived in 1976, you couldn't pay him enough to take out a 6V71 GMC. |

It used the ferry to cross the Hudson up until November 1963 when the bridge (Current north span)opened. In Beacon it ran along US Route 9D probably as far south as Dutchess Junction (guess). I did ride it as far south as the incline railway. I'm sure that it Beacon it made a detour down to the train station. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Breezy Point is widely known to be a gated community, so that would be the question he's asking. However, what most people don't realize is that the main street through the community, Rockaway Point Boulevard is completely open to general traffic. There's a guard booth at the entrance, but one can go around it without stopping. Only the side streets are gated. So nothing would stop a public bus from running there. |

The Wikipedia article you reference has a citation that's a link to the 1995 Express Bus Map. No QBM1 or QBM2, but it shows the MAX routes with good detail:BM10: Northbound via 3rd and southbound via 4th from 97th to 66th, then the Gowanus. BM11: Bay Parkway and Bay Ridge Parkway (75th) via Bay Parkway and 65th Street to Gowanus Expressway. BM15: Avenue Z and Ocean Parkway via B4 route to 3rd/4th, then via BM10 route (above) to Gowanus. City (all routes): Northbound via Trinity/Church/6th to Central Park South. Southbound via 5th and Broadway. The BM15 had a single outbound (to Brooklyn) run via Water Street from Fulton, but no corresponding inbound run. |

They supposedly had the friendliest drivers. I remember reading that the reason they went out of business was chiefly because they had to vacate their facility at 225 Cherry Street. Part of me wonders if there was a chance that they could've stayed open or another company could've taken it over rather than NYCT/MaBSTOA. |

Green Bus was the absolute worst towards the end (early 00s): Unprofessional drivers, rickety buses (even newer ones that were less than 10 years old at the time like the Orion Vs), and service that you could count on not being able to count on lol. I really wondered how it lasted for so many decades.Over time I learned to love to hate it though, and even adapted to its mediocrity. On paper, the fastest way to get to South Ozone Park was to take the LIRR to the Q9, but since the only route through South Ozone Park that Green Bus seemed to care about was the Q10 (Green Bus was a private company, the Q10 was and still is a cash cow, and the Q10 is one of the first impressions of the city for many tourists, so can't blame them for that), I learned that the best way to go was the (A) train to the Q10, and kept doing that well into the MTA Bus takeover until the MTA made the Q7 and Q9 somewhat more usable. |

Despite poor service (including no Sunday service or connection to Metro-North outside of peak hours), and even worse infrastructure to support the system, the Newburgh Local Buses within town are actually still well utilized to this day, with almost every Northside/Southside bus carrying a seated load along Broadway. I hope Orange County one day realizes that a lot of people in Newburgh need to take the bus, and starts giving the system the increased funding that it deserves. |

I was a regular commuter on Green Lines in 2005 on the Q40 and service was pretty good IMO. A train to the Q7 was also a commute I used to do back then. Rough time for me in my life at that point so being a transit buff riding Green Lines was one of the highlights of my life lol. Only time a bus had an mechanical problem was a hand me down RTS from the MTA (the units that was painted all white). Some drivers were mean lol, reminds me of this one guy who was grumpy as hell and was ALWAYS in a bad mood whenever I got his bus. Grumpy B/Os lasted well into the takeover era in multiple MTA Bus depots. |
