And the Bx1/Bx2 are not included. This line ought to be in the center of the GC to begin with. And if they can't do that, then truncate the line to run 'tween Fordham and north. What the Hell happens to these buses south of Fordham, especially coming north? Like a giant knot ensnares the entire Concourse. The waiting is extreme. And why only the Bx1 feeds W231 street, when both lines could and should do it. When n/b buses don't show, there are no s/b buses. And the crowds build up, the IRT #1 keeps dumping its passengers, and the crowds build even further.So I walk to Ft Independence and what do I see? Bx1's on "short turns" going n/b and then heading south, empty, to some unknown pick up point, I imagine. Why? r17 |

With regard to the Q44SBS. The MTA needs to first revise and extend the Q44 Limited route east of Rosedale Avenue in the Bronx to take BX36 Limited stops and BX36 Limited routing to the George Washington Bus Terminal in Manhattan. (The BX36 Limited should be eliminated and increased BX36 local service be provided.) (The BX9 could be extended further west along the Cross Bronx Expressway to replace Q44 bus service to the few stops lost by the Q44 no longer serving those few stops and the BX9 be extended to Westchester Square via the Cross Bronx Expressway and Westchester Avenue.) Also alternate Q44 Limited buses could also travelto Fordham Plaza by being rerouted at Webster Avenue/East 180th Street to travel along Webster Avenue to/from Fordham Plaza. |

Maybe they should focus on only Main St for SBS (a quick way from Flushing to Jamaica, the two "centers" of Queens, that would keep people from wanting to go via Jackson Heights (by subway). Then have a separate route start at Flushing for the Bronx, which could have a limited and local.Are there lots of through riders on the Q44 who do not board / alight in Flushing? |

Yeah, I know. I don't know what's the special deal with that? If the 2 can go there at those times, why not full time? The Bx1 Limited is already so "un-limited". Some of the original limited stops between Jerome Ave & Ft Indep have been de-limited, so to speak. Drivers stop when they aren't supposed to, and often the Bx2 passes the limited along the G.C.Like I stated before there is a need for the added service at W231Street. Many riders, like myself, often walk to Ft Indep. to catch the Bx2. And, btw, the Dept of Traffic (I suppose)needs to get a better control over the nightmare situation at B'way & W231 street, often called one of the worst & most dangerous intersections in the city. I love how they do "studies", inform the public about their findings, do nothing about it, and then rehash the same old study a year later. Typical of many "studies". r17 |

That would be great. Just focus on one thing and stick with it.To put a whole bunch of features on one route is NOT cost-effective (and therefore NYC's version of BRT is not cost-effective either). For example, take the combination of the reduction in stops and the on-street fare payment. Well, the on-street fare payment reduces dwell times in stops, but the number of stops has been reduced so the total dwell time savings per run is minimized. Yes, fewer stops will mean a faster ride but the time savings is minimal now considering how many people at ex-limited, non-SBS stops are being left out in the cold. Although I can see how the on-street fare payment can be expensive because of the machines needed. Hopefully with whatever comes after MetroCard, the technology will allow one to board the bus with their card, pay on the bus at any door, even after the bus has left the stop, and be able to have their card checked at random to see if fare was paid. That would be real time-savings. |

You have to consider that there's already several routes that cover Flushing-Jamaica (Q17, Q20/Q44, Q25/34, Q65), but only one of those goes up into The Bronx (that route, of course being the Q44). By splitting the route at Flushing you're making it harder to travel between the Bronx, and areas south of Flushing.I think easier Bronx-Jamaica access is more important than Queens-Fordham access (and definitely more important than extending it any further west of there), so any proposal involving splitting it at Flushing in order to extend it in The Bronx, I'd have to disagree with. Now, the question is what should cover the local stops alongside the CBX. The Bx9 is long enough as is. You could create a local version of the Q44, but unless you run the local all the way to Flushing, the local won't have too many ridership generators. Maybe something going to Throgs Neck might work (at least it connects more residential areas to the 6). But where could it be routed without duplicating the Bx8/40/42? |

This is only a thought. They also omitted Gates initially. They wanted to encourage everyone to use the B38. I'm sure they intended to do the same for the B46 SBS. Make a stop only for the B38 and omit the B52 and 54. That would drive even more riders to the B38. Then they gradually beef up B38 service and begin to destroy service on the B52 and B54. When ridership and service get really light on those routes, they first eliminate weekend service, then discontinue those routes entirely. Fewer routes, lower deficits. |
