The MTA was able to save 7788 after it fell off the lift. By contrast, in a similar accident at WMATA, the lift ended up puncturing a bus' frame and that bus was a total loss. |

I'm surprised the underside of the bus isn't protected at all. Suppose something gets caught under the bus... Can't it jam something down there and cause an accident? Then again, I guess it's better to leave it that way since they don't need to take anything off when maintaining the bottom of the bus. |

The underside on buses aren't "protected" for many reasons. These include (but not limited to) to prevent trapping of water and salt, easy access to mechanical and structure components, and risk of components falling from underneath the vehicle.The Orion VII underframe does not use any type of corrosion protection due to the stainless steel frame. It is also due to the fact that the manufacturer of the plywood floor does not recommend applying any type of coating to it. |
