I really dont know... he probably did with the similar features to the subway map, before Michael Hertz's works shows up on some of the bus maps in 1977/8. |

Thank you very much...I downloaded the front and am currently downloading the back.I also notice that some routes were simply renumbered in the 1984 redrawing (i.e., the Bx20 became the Bx9). |

Yup - In those days on the main part of the Bx55 (161st to Fordham Rd) they almost always could be seen in pairs. The Bx55 was often a good and fast ride as they went southbound along Washington Ave and northbound along Third Ave. |

Curious---when did Third Avenue become two-way through Morrisania? It seems odd today that that street would be one-way. |

Traffic flow Third Ave between 163rd and 186th Streets became one-way, northbound in 1973 when Third Ave el service ended and Bx-55 service started. I don't remember the exact year that Third Ave between 163rd and 186th streets was converted back to two-way traffic, but I think it happended in the early 1980s.I was a fan of the one-way Third Ave (and soundbound Bx-55 and Bx-29 (now Bx15 on Washington Ave). In those days the buses made really good time. Now it's often pretty slow along Third Ave since it was converted back to two-way traffic pattern. Also, the fact that nearly all of the intersections having a traffic light also slowed the flow. |

Yes, at that point the TA had dropped all of the lettered suffixes on Bronx route designations, but that shuttle used to be the Bx-34A. |

Wayne: I remember that well. The re-numbering became effective on July 1, 1974 just before the map was issued. Gone was the alphabet soup of multiple bus designations. The Bx12A,B and C all became the Bx 12. The Bx 15A became the Bx 6, the Bx15B became the Bx 19 and the Bx15C (Allerton Avenue) got back its rightful route number , Bx 17.I did not know that the Food Center Shuttle had been designated Bx34A. Thanks for that bit of information. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
