Traffic flow Third Ave between 163rd and 186th Streets became one-way, northbound in 1973 when Third Ave el service ended and Bx-55 service started. I don't remember the exact year that Third Ave between 163rd and 186th streets was converted back to two-way traffic, but I think it happended in the early 1980s.

I was a fan of the one-way Third Ave (and soundbound Bx-55 and Bx-29 (now Bx15 on Washington Ave). In those days the buses made really good time. Now it's often pretty slow along Third Ave since it was converted back to two-way traffic pattern. Also, the fact that nearly all of the intersections having a traffic light also slowed the flow.
