New SEPTA Buses arrive

The final batch of hybrids from New Flyer has started to arrive from the factory. Give them a week or two before they hit the streets. Callowhill garage is getting the first batch so if you are in Philly these buses usually hit the "glamor" lines first [21, 42, 65 and especially the 44] before the rest of the depot's lines see them.

2011 DE40LFR

The fleet numbers are 8460-8579 [or 8599 if the option is used]

Thanks for the heads up. I heard the next order of buses will be non-hybrid.It the FED kicks in more money, they will stay hybrids.

Do you know which depots will get 8460-8579 besides Callowhill?

Thanx for the info.
These "glamor" lines: where can they be caught? Any in center city?

The 21 and 42 run on Chestnut and Walnut St in Center City, the 44 runs on Market St, then on I-76 to City Ave then on City Ave going into Lower Merion Twp[and Ardmore]. The 65 runs mostly on City Ave [border of Philly and Lower Merion].

That's why they are the "glamour" lines out of Callowhill [shouldn't leave out the 38 either.].

This was the fourth-batch of an order of 400 (with options for 20 buses each year; the option was executed in the second and third years and was not executed in the first year; not sure this year's option will be executed). The order was originally for DE40LF, however, then the old style New Flyer low floor was discontinued, SEPTA went with the LFR.

I wouldn't be shocked if SEPTA's next order (155 artics, 90 rigids) were the Excelsior model. They will tentatively be straight diesel (depending on funding).

I heard the same thing about any new buses after this 20111 batch will be straight diesel. Nothing is set in stone yet. I can't wait to see the new artics.

I road one of the first DE40LFR's today, I like them. My driver friend does, too, they turn corners better. Lot's of turns on the 118.

Not too shabby for a cell phone photo:
