Wish eye had seen you; I would have ridden back.I live in Norwood and was frozen; plus too much coffee, get my drift? Keep in touch. joe |

I wasn't even EXPECTING to catch this bus, because I thought it had already went out! Sure enough, when I got off the D train, it was there! I only got one pic, since I already had 3 from the past 3 days! Unfortunately, after I got off and took the shot, sure enough, it was blurred! Dang! I'll try again tomorrow, if it goes out! Great seeing you again!--J. Rivera |

Perhaps now that the Transit Museum has two actual New York City Omnibus units awaiting restoration, when this is done perhaps the now #2969 can be given back its actual number, 4789, and the NYCO removed. Historically, this bus is not decorated accurately. |

I rode this series of buses (4500-4899) going to and from grammar school, high school and college. They had a special switch to allow the bus to move away faster from bus stops after discharging passengers through the rear door. I know what it did - does anyone else remember? |

So would I!We never had these in the Bx, I seldom got to Bklyn or Queens, so they were all "new" to me when I first encountered them in the mid-late 1960's. Amazing the bus exists at all considering many other interesting and unusual stuff disappeared. Perhaps it was stored and found at the proper time. Perhaps it was used by FDNY and when no longer needed it was thought worthy of preservation. Whatever, let's be glad that it is saved. jrc |

I've always been quiet for the most part on bus fan trips! Did you go on the return trip to Co-op City Section 5? |

My only concern last night when I rode #2969 after I saw Joe C., was the large number of schoolkids who got on the bus. The farebox was broken, so it was PACKED! With all those padded seats, I didn't want to see a single razor blade by ANYONE on that bus! Thankfully, that wasn't a problem! When I was on #2151 last week, there were funny comments from passengers such as "This looks like a prison bus!" I'm sure there will be more of the same weird looks from onlookers for the next 3 weeks! Enjoy it while you can! :) |

When the driver mentioned to some of the riders about the age of the bus, I heard the following comments:"Damn, this an old ass bus!" "This was the s**t they had back in the day?" "I wish I brought my camera!" One kid thought the bus was from "like 1965", until I had to correct him! (Someone said something similar on my ride this morning!) Most of the kids just took pictures with their cellphones while the bus was in motion. Some complained about the lighting, they thought it was too dim, but I thought that was a unique aspect of the ride. One complained about the cold, since the bus wasn't equipped with heating like the current fleet of buses, go figure! But, I think it was a great experience for those who were fortunate to see and ride it! After all, that's what really counts! |

Ya know, when I rode yesterday, I was suspicious of the three kids that ran to the back. They were laughing and appeared to enjoy the bus. Overcome with joy it seemed but I was concerned because they appeared to be hiding something. I figured they may cut seats or mark them up. I had my KB hat on and strolled to the back of the bus. They suddenly quieted down even though they really weren't doing anything wrong. I looked out the rear window and strolled up to the front again. They began carrying on again and when they got off on Boston Rd, they watched the bus pull out. They did nothing in the bus.Happy! jrc |
