GFI still has a least one big operator.
Cubic must be upset.

GFI? One big operator? I thought the majority of medium-to-large sized TA's use GFI equipment and that SEPTA, NJT, MTA/Bee Line, and MBTA were the exceptions rather than the rule.

One of the SEPTA drivers told me the A B C D buttons are for a future Smart Card. We will find out more.

Of the systems I've ridden on or are acquainted with, I can name the following using GFI besides SEPTA:

CDTA (Odyssey, Cents-a-Bill for paratransit)
RGRTA (Odyssey)
NFTA (Cents-a-Bill)
PAT (Cents-a-Bill)
MCTS [Milwaukee] (Cents-a-Bill)
CTA (Cents-a-Bill)
PACE (Odyssey)
Berkshire [County MA] RTA (Odyssey)
PVTA (Cents-a-Bill)
CT Transit (Cents-a-Bill)
Norwalk WHEELS (Odyssey)
DART First State (Odyssey)
MTA Maryland (Odyssey)
WMATA & the SmarTrip agencies (Odyssey)
CATS [Charlotte] (Odyssey)
MARTA (Odyssey)
Miami-Dade Transit (Odyssey)
STM (Odyssey, the bill-less Canadian version)
RTL (Canadian Cents-a-Bill variant)
St. Catherine's Transit (Canadian Cents-a-Bill variant)

I've always thought that the agencies that don't use GFI were the outcasts.

Those GFI's were much more reliable than the cubix garbage we have now.
In my depot we get 4 roadcalls a day for them.

There are many west coast properties that use GFI boxes, several of whom also employ Smart Card technologies that are now owned by Cubic Transportation Systems (Formerly vix-erg).

I'm so glad that SEPTA is sticking with these fare boxes for their Smart Card upgrade. I hate the new GFI boxes with a passion. I'll never forget how one of them stole my dollar bill as I attempted to buy a daypass on a WMATA bus. Additionally, sliding a pass through the slot is ridiculously inconvenient on those systems that haven't changed to the tap card yet.

That's the model/type of the farebox. They have 2 main fare registering boxes - one of them is called the Cents-a-Bill and the other one is the Odyssey.

I'd love to see how those fareboxes affect running times on systems that do daypass sales on board. Back when I was in Albany, CDTA would always have extended dwell times at key stops because of the high amount of daypass sales (then $3, now $4) and the problems those boxes have with reading dollar bills.

Of course, CDTA could remedy that by investing in vending machines for key stops (State & Pearl, Washington & Lark, Downtown Troy, Downtown Schenectady, any malls, etc.).
