Remember, the BxM4A dies on Sunday, June 27. Running via the Grand Concourse would add 15 minutes to the run, but would pick up a lot of passengers headed for Empire City. During rush hours, you make the BxM4A a Super Express. Then, you split the route into two zones and three routes:BxM4A: Rush hours to Palmer Road via Concourse Off-peak to White Plains via Concourse BxM4B: As is BxM4C: Rush hours to White Plains vis Super Express No service off-peak In theory, it can work. The question is whether I trust the MTA to operate the BxM4C properly. They could operate and slowly kill the ridership off or they could be smart and use Westchester to offset current BxM4 losses. My faith in Walder is greater than zero, but I am skeptical. Ridership is so weak on the BxM4, however, that it can be reconfigured to help out Westchester. The Concourse can be a fast roadway in comparison to other north/south routes. |

AS a B/O that drives the BxM4A/B and used to drive the 4C, your 15 mins. is very wrong to operate on the GC with the current traffic light pattern and the fact that the service road now has a bike lane and only one lane for traffic it is a 45-60 min ride from 161 st to 210 st. The bus stop configuration disallows use of the service rd.In the last year the concourse has been slowed signficantly. The offset would be the best answer. But the MTA should make it an equal trip for trip exchange. Less 4C's, but equal to the 4A trips being cut. A very acceptable and gainful proposition. Joel E-mail me if you can. |

The 4C is carded for 27 minutes between 98 Street & McLean Avenue. The actual run time during rush hours is closer to 45 minutes. |

IMO, I think it would be an excellent idea for MTA Bus to pick up the BXM4C. It would be operated out of Yonkers Depot and relabeled as the BXM5. I've rode the BXM4C a few times and it does carry at points. It's also a good alternate to using the MNRR Harlem Line to White Plains as well as taking the W20 bus to Empire City Yonkers Raceway. The only addition that I would make is to terminate the line at the White Plains Transit Center where connections would be available to various Bee Line buses, the Tappan-Zee Express, I-Bus snd MNRR. |

I agree that was one of the biggest problems I had with the BxM4C was that its terminal was a good walking distance to the transit center in White Plains, I never understood why it never terminated nearby. It would have been great for me as a good transfer between the I - bus and the BxM 4C |

I agree with you on that except that I do believe the MTA "MIGHT" have a problem IF ended the BxM4C at White Plains Transportation Center. They may need permission to operate out of that terminal (I really don't know but it's possible). CTransit has been operating out of there for years and so has Tappen-Zee Express.Maybe they can end right behind the Tappen-Zee Express layover area at the M.N.R.R Station. That COULD work. |

Of course, having MTA Bus Company running the route means that its (rather sizable) operating losses would be fully covered by CITY taxpayers. It's bad enough that I have to subsidize Yonkers (through the last 1.5 miles of the BxM3). Is there really a good reason why I should also subsidize Scarsdale and White Plains (plus even more of Yonkers)? |

Not exactly.A hypothetical BxM4A extension would only be subsidized by the city until the Major Deegan Expressway and 233 Street. The rest would be subsidized by either Westchester and/or the state. For WCDOT, it would be the financial equivalent of adding service on Route 20 to Woodlawn. This is why this deal may have legs. During rush hour, Westchester would NOT need to subsidize the bus at all and some of the cash will flow through to the existing BxM4C operation. There is a chance that this is a WEEKDAY ONLY thing. |

The whole point is to force everyone on the train. The MTA is not going to run a full length 4C except at gunpoint. This is designed to embarass the riders. When ridership falls by a big number in a short period of time, the route will be shut down at the end of the year. They want everyone on the train.Westchester likes to synchronize its fare increases with the MTA. This means that a fare hike may be in the works for September. |

I don't get the fuss about the $8.50 fare, other than the fact it is a $3 increase from the current (artificially low) fare. $8.50 is comparable to a Metro-North fares from Westchester. The BxM4C provides value by providing direct service and a premium ride - why shouldn't customers pay for this? |
