Posted by busstopkid on Thu Mar 4 03:08:49 2010 Since this is AC Transit's 50th Anniversary this year. I wanted to know which bus you would choose between:A 2003 NABI LFW  OR... A 2008 Vanhool A300L  A 1991 Gillig Phantom  OR... A 2009 Vanhool A300K  A 2003 MCI 4500  OR... A 2010 Vanhool C3045 (In delivery)  A 1996 New Flyer D60 High Floor  OR... A 2007 Vanhool AG300  |

The MCI and the Gillig (especially one from 1991 with a 6v92TA!) any day! I'm curious about how the Articulated Van Hool bus would run, though.I'm trying to figure out what inspired the change to the single-leaf front door... To be honest, if I fanned AC Transit, I'd run after the Van Hools (and the '91 Gilligs - woot!) since Van Hools are hard to find elsewhere outside of DC's "The Circulator". |

I was choosing buses that are still in service and being currently used by AC Transit.But here you go: New Looks:     New Flyer:   Neoplan:   All has since been retired and no longer at ACT except for 2103. |

I went to visit UC Berkeley during my first visit to the Bay Area in August 1988, and I saw one there. At that time, I think the only other agency in California that had Neoplans was SCRTD. ACT had a very varied fleet in 1988--GM and Flxible New Looks, the Neoplans, M-A-N artics, (Old) Flyer D901s and (I think) some early Gillig Phantoms. Too bad that these days they have bitten with the Van Fool bug :( |
