PHOTOS: Riding the M42...50's style

Just wanted to share my trip photos. Finally, I can say that I've ridden Old Look buses. Egads, these buses are older than both of my parents!

Enjoy:

9098 at the Circle Line - the first bus I rode.

I'll definitely miss those RTSs and their wonderful DD50 sound!

2969, the second bus I rode. Took a while to show up from the other end, but thankfully I was able to catch it!

Last, but definitely not least, 3100! It was my favorite, with comfy seats and plenty of leg room (a concept lost on today's buses).

One cool thing about NY is that when something like this happens, I often run into the local fans. As you can see, I wasn't the only one that admired 3100.

A special, thank you thank you thank you thank you to the great folks at ENY for restoring these buses into such impeccable shape. Additionally, I'd love to shake the hand of the man (or woman) responsible for making the decision to run these gems. I wish I could do the same with SEPTA, as our historic fleet doesn't do much more than sit (outside!) at Germantown depot.

Honestly, this is one of the most exciting busfanning trips that I've had in a long time. The new stuff just isn't as exciting to ride anymore.

Very nice photos.

If you want more legroom, you'll have less seats...

First pic = Awsome! I love how the bus paint scheme sorta matches the circle line in the backaround, nice photos all around!

one of the nicest thing is that these buses will continue to operate past new years. My hope is that someday Grumman #236 comes out as well.

That's the sole sourced rumor of the week. We'll see if it pans out. I hope it does.

Thanks!

And yes, that's the unfortunate truth with the legroom. It does feel nice though, as a tall person, to be able to sit in a sit and not have to silently scream in agony and wonder if I am going to get major arthritis in my knees because of it.

Back in the day (at least in SEPTAland) the seats had plastic bags that would give say. The ones on later buses with the STEEL bags aren't much fun.

Thanks very much! The weather, albeit freezing cold, was pretty good, and I'm glad that all 3 of the buses were in service.

I hope to return in time to ride that Mack!

Maybe you should let the management of SEPTA see your pictures.
They might do the same thing as New York. Buy the way, nice
pictuers. The shot of 2969 turning off of 1st Avenue onto 42nd Street is a gem.

Sadly 2969 didn't run today :(
Only 3100 and 9098 ran. Got to ride both of them at least.

Thanks! That's a good idea, honestly, about sharing it with SEPTA management. Although our fleet doesn't contain Old Looks, it would be nice to see the buses in action. Plus, it would be fantastic if Hershey Bus Museum sent us 8590, SEPTA's ONLY 40 foot Volvo bus, back for a run in Philly streets. It was just refurbished/repainted/overhauled (?) by SEPTA last year or so, and seemed to be in decent shape when I went out to the "Gathering of Buses" last summer.
