Bus interior pics? |
|
Posted by Easy on Mon Dec 29 21:14:42 2008 Anyone want to post some typical bus interior pics for where you live? And what exactly does "suburban seating" mean? Also how many types of seating arrangements are there and what are they called? Urban seating??Here's what LA buses look like more or less: |

Suburban is highback cushion seating like an MCI, the other variety is called transit seating usually hard plastic or like the seats in LA hard upohlstered seats, there are many manufactures of both styles with different looks. |

Even though the majority of their suburban-seated buses are used on P/R lines (492, 499, 699, etc), they are used sometimes on trippers as well (such as the 855). |

I really like LACMTA's bus interiors because they are bright and modern (the seats are nice too). Does that particular bus have Transit TV?By the way, check out the posting on the "Valley Metro 60-BRT interior" and compare it to the LACMTA interior. There are a number of similarities and differences given that Valley Metro's 10 60-BRTs were options off the enormous LACMTA 60-BRT interior (including the facts that the Valley Metro buses have the Welcome Aboard/Bienvenidos markings by the front door and all of the interior signage is in the LACMTA style). I wonder if the 10 Valley Metro 60-BRTs explain why LACMTA only ordered 95 60-BRTs in both 2007 and 2008 (and that those 10 BRTs were supposed to be 9495-9499 and 9595-9599). |

Although nearly all over-the-road buses have suburban seating, in my opinion low-floor buses with suburban seating are the most interesting (such as Valley Metro's NABI 45C-LFW LNG buses, which have reclining seats, personal reading lights and vents, and luggage racks). |

I saw the WMATA 60-BRT at the APTA 2008 Expo and it was very bright and attractive inside. Along with LACMTA, I really like WMATA's interiors on their 2001 and newer buses. One thing that the 60-BRT at the APTA 2008 Expo had were small "headrests" on the handles of the seats. I don't know if that was just experimental (on one bus) or if it is present on the other buses (if I recall the first WMATA 60-BRT did not have them either). Nevertheless, that is a very clean-looking bus. 2. Looks like someone got to the seats and walls of that 2000 Orion (and partly on that Flxible). At least on the buses that I rode on (mostly on 1997 and 2000 Orion Vs and two Orion VIIs), WMATA buses are generally clean (I did not remember any scratchitti, but there was some writing on the seats that also used black ink). I haven't ridden many of the other routes so I don't know if WMATA has a serious vandalism problem (the Metro trains are spotless). 3. SEPTA's interiors are quite attractive too. I have never ridden on a SEPTA bus but they appear to have a little bit of scratchitti in the rear (from other photos that I have seen) but I don't think it is worse than Phoenix or Los Angeles. I like the red rear walls on the SEPTA 416s as it really makes the interior attractive with the red, white, and blue colors). |

May I also add that the D60HF and RTS both look great and very clean. |

Thanks! My earliest NYC bus memory would be one night back in the early 1990's. I was visiting Co-op City with my family. After the visit, we went to a subway station to head back to Manhattan I guess, but the subway was not running for some reason. It may have been police activity. I assume this was the (6) at Pelham Bay Park. Someone there told us to take a certain bus to another subway station where the subway was running. Maybe it was the Bx12 to the Dyre or White Plains lines? Or maybe it was a bus that parallels the (6) and we took it to another (6) station? Or maybe it was a special shuttle bus provided due to the subway outage. But we rode that bus to the other subway station/line and got the subway there. I don't remember anything else about that day, such as how we got to Co-op City in the first place (maybe we were driven by our relatives who lived there, or maybe we took a bus or subway there), or how we got to NYC in the first place (and if we drove, where was our car parked?). I also don't remember what kind of bus it was. |

Yep those are American Seating "Innovator" seats (http://www.americanseating.com/productDetails.aspx?id=0_83_trans_146, sorry for the lack of hyperlink). I am guessing that this design has been around since at least the early 1980s as Vancouver's old Flyer trolleybuses (built in the early 1980s) also had these seats installed. Nevertheless these seats continue to be relatively popular (Valley Metro of Phoenix just took delivery of 20 2008 New Flyer D60LFs with these same seats). They are moderately comfortable in my opinion. |

My pic is from the new Breda train which uses the same seats as the other lrv's except for some reason they went with about 1" less spacing between seats. It doesn't sound like much, but it makes for a tight squeeze if the two people are over 170 pounds. |
