Many of the Surface Transit crosstown routes were converted from old trolley car routes in the late 1940s (the tracks remained on many streets for years until they were finally torn out or paved over) and ran virtually unchanged for many years. However some of them have been extensively modified in recent years as the MTA has attempted to improve bus service for Bronx residents. |
