Instead of assigning letters based on borough or train letter, and numbers limited to the 90-99 range, I would have chosen a standard letter for temporary shuttles -- S is taken by Staten Island, but T is available -- followed by a sequence number which is not limited in range. Just increment the number every time a new temporary shuttle service is created. The 90-99 range might be useful for regular routes at some point. I was even thinking about renumbering the Queens routes with numbers above 100, something like this: Q100 -> Q71 (because Q70 is taken) Q101 -> Q61 Q102 -> Q62 (could be confusing w/B62 near Queens Plaza) Q103 -> Q63 Q104 -> Q68 (because Q64 is taken) Q110 -> Q90 Q111 -> Q91 Q112 -> Q92 Q113 -> Q93 Q114 -> Q94 There's no practical reason for this; it's just more elegant to get rid of the three-digit route numbers. |
