Yeah I remember noticing that on an old Bronx bus map (as well as the baffling lack of bus service on White Plains Road south of Morris Park Avenue, and many branches of the Bx40 in Throgs Neck back then), and it really seems like they renumbered it to the Bx3 for no reason. They could have renamed the Bx3 during the recent redesign too since there are a lot of free route numbers available in The Bronx, but I guess they figured it wasn't the effort.
