I may have mentioned this in another thread, but one early memory of bus riding is as a child being brought on a Comprehensive bus with a turnstile, presumably a Mack and presumably 66th Street Crosstown. Maybe it was a show-off visit to the doctor who delivered me a few years earlier. Mom would spend the additional nickel to get crosstown on a bus from the Interborough under Broadway. I think my father would more likely save the nickel he had worked for by continuing south to the 42nd Street shuttle and then riding north on the Lex.
