For quick borrowing, perhaps, but for long-term operation, renumbering and repainting, or rather adding stripes, did occur. Then how about those #6XXX series Fishbowls I saw and photographed in service ? I don't think they were repainted. I know the GM Blitzs were. The best and most recent example were the New Look Flxibles (they were hard steering, though!) that were renumbered in the 300-series. Mr. Kim Kimball had just arrived as General Manager and immediately borrowed them to alleviate a shortage of buses. I remember those buses well, having driven many of them. Can't pinpoint the exact year at the moment, but it was between 1985 and 1990. In my early days at MSBA, we had a great variety of buses. Today - ugh! Yep, I remember those Flxibles renumbered into the #3XX series. IIRC some had standee windows, some didn't. No roll signs of course. Bill Newkirk |
