NYCTA Bus Roster 9/8/74 (QV Opens)

B53 Rich informs us that the date of this roster has the bus assignment for the opening of the then brand new Queens Village Depot. The property (and the actual building?) was the property of the former Duggan's (could be one "g") Baking Company. Sadly when that company went out of business (in the 1960's?) several cousins of my late father lost their jobs.

If you expected a new fleet, you're going to be sadly disappointed. Their total fleet was 246, with 105 (various from 1960 and 2100's from 1962) over 12 years old, with another 55 (5600 series Flxies) being 9 years old. Only 70 local and 16 expresses from 1970 and beyond. Rather than making wholesale re-assignments from throughout Brooklyn and Queens, the first QV fleet came from Flushing and Jamaica.

As with the NYCTA Roster from 1/1/74, various depots had beese from 1960, with no specific fleet numbers assigned. There were 131 of these active, with 50 listed in storage.

The roster notes that Fifth Ave. assigned bus 6948 was converted to hard seats.

Flushing: (13/'60), 2001-2076 (76/'62), 5601-5645 (45/'65), 4442-4455 (14/'70), 6200-6229 (30/'72), 7175-7204 (30/'73). Total: 208.

Jamaica: (5/'60), 2077-2101 (25/'62), 3632-3659 and 3901-3950 (78/'63), 4342-4391 (50/'70). Total: 158.

Queens Village: (31/'60), 2102-2175 (74/'62), 5646-5700 (55/'65), 4392-4441 (50/'70), 6164-6179 express (16/'71), 7155-7174 (20/'73). Total: 246.

Staten Island: 3601-3631 (31/'63), 5116-5165 (50/'64), 5701-5790 (90/'65), 8801-8824 and 8858-8871 and 8877-8933 (9 local + 86 express/'68), 4456-4483 (28/'70) and 4484-4499 express (16/'70), 6230-6270 (41/'72), 6901-6938 express (38/'72). Total: 389.
