Heh I don't know about THAT... lots of people here would disagree with that statement, but I guess it's a case of "grass is greener on the other side" as it were.One problem we still have here is our archaic fare collection practices. We still use fare boxes where you count what the passenger deposited by looking at the coins... no digital counters or anything. Also, our transfer system is extremely out-dated... all the suburban systems around us use time-based transfers while we still use directional transfers, which are a big source of fare disputes. There are no fare cards or smart cards here, the only cards we have are weekly and monthly passes which must be shown to the driver when boarding. We also write out our own waybills here, ie every day we write out what times the vehicle leaves each end terminal and record what transfer number we start each trip at to determine approximate ridership. So while the TTC is finally taking operator safety into account (after much fighting with the union) there are still areas where they need work. How long ago were you here? |
