I haven't read all the posts on here yet, so if I'm about to repeat what anyone else has said, I'm sorry.

First of all, of course this is a horrible thing. The perp should be caught, and hopefully sent away forever. Too bad NY law doesn't allow for more.

That said, this incident makes me wonder about the mindset of criminals. Does this individual really think he's taught the MTA a lesson of some kind, and now they'll let him ride for free? Doesn't he realize that he'll now be hunted down, and assuming he's not killed by the police on-site, will likely spend many years in jail? Was it really worth it to him? It's not like stealing another kid's lunch money. Yes, you can do that, and most peaceful kids will simply give it up. Why don't these "citizens" realize that actually killing or seriously injuring someone for such a trivial thing has no worthwhile payoff?

A few days ago, I speculated as to suspects' motives for resisting arrest- which is similarly stupid and pointless, though on a lesser scale?

Oh well...
