There is no compelling evidence that sexual orientation is either genetic or environmental.

It is NOT genetic (or environmental), but one *is* born that way.
Were it genetic it would have been breed out of existance. In case you have not noticed it, homosexuals do not reproduce all that well. No genetic marker or gene has been found for it.

As it has been explained to me: There is some neonatal developmental issue present here. One model might be the development of photographic film. You leave it in the developer to long and the whole thing comes out black. You leave it in to little, the thing comes out white. The absence or presence of certain chemicals during a certain period of embrionic development seems to be suggested by some researchers as a key to this development.

I did not choose to be gay or straight, but I did choose to be celibate: that this has worked out for me is the good Lord's doing, and certainly not my own. Some people forget that I was a sailor before I became a monk.

That is what makes some of these Hindu god more interesting than many of our saints... their hagiographers did not leave out the human stuff.
