Death toll went up to 21 now.here's a video from the russian news. Shows the aftermath, the mangled train and an animation of how it happened. Looks like the Train went into emergency, jumped track and the first car got completely mangled similar to what happenedd with the union square wreck in the 90s.

If the train went into emergency the cars are not supposed to crash into one another. All cars are supposed to go into emergency at the same time so this doesn't happen. In time this question will be answered. |

Watching CBS News this morning, the Russian news agency now states that the derailment was blamed on a newly-installed switch turnout that allegedly was not properly installed. More details as I learn of them. There may be a criminal investigation. |
