Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Mon Nov 18 09:59:18 2013 Just some Saturday late afternoon shooting I got in at Roselle Park (NJT Raritan Valley Line) on the CSAO Lehigh Line. This was shot using a small but new Nikon S6500 I recently acquired due to the demise my S3000, which was severely damaged in an outing my daughters had about 2 months ago. For a small point and shoot, which I now make it practice to keep in my truck 24/7/365 in case I do not have my 60D on me, which this day was the case, and a moment of railfanning became available, so I tested her out!! Here are the results!!!First off, 2 videos...... NS 33K, Croxton Yard to Allentown PA, westbound on Track 2 at CP ROSELLE PARK, led by C40-8 8759 and C40-8W 8417...... NS 20K, Chicago 47th Street to Croxton Yard, now eastbound on Track 2 at CP ROSELLE PARK, with the lead covered by a triplet of C40-9Ws, 9626/9599/9908...... Now for some afternoon "golden light" still shots...... NJT 5527 west on Track 1 (notice far of fin the pic east by CP TOWNLEY is the tail end of NS 20K)  (Of note, just for my buddy 5301Fishbowl, I snuck the 7-11 into the shot here!!! :-))  NJT 5524 with an ill timed CSX K532, Massena NY to Curtis Bay MD (Baltimore), empty bauxite/potash hoppers, led by CSX SD50-3 (Ex-Seaboard System) and ES44AH 829, westbound on Track 1 (FINALLY!! I get a shot of a freight running thru CP ROSELLE PARK on Track 1 rather than the gantlet on Track 1)   Thanks to NJT 5524 for screwing this one up!! I wanted to get the K532 from the cut off fence at the very end of the platform on the Track 2 side, but with the NJT being there, safety first, a definite no go!! I made the best of things!!) Thanks for the 7-Eleven shot, Paul! :-)That situation was definitely rare, having the passenger train on track 2 and the freight on track 1. But unless things have changed since the last time I was there, the gantlet is only on track 2 at Roselle Park. At Townley (by Union Station), the have gantlets on both tracks 1 and 2. |

Nice set there.This is the view of the same area in 1952, prior to Aldene elevation. Street in the foreground is Locust Street, and the station is further back by Chestnut Street. The train on the far left track AFAIK is a Rahway Valley RR train.  |

Nothing was better than on the weekends on "The Dink" between New Canaan and Stamford, calling up the Springdale Diner when we are either down at Stamford or up in New Canaan, and having the waiter/waitress bring our order out to us on the platform, of course have the $$$$ ready for a nice smooth transfer of the goods!! :-)It is so "in-and-out", no one even knows we stopped, and the train still stays on schedule!! :-) |

Paul: Thank you for posting those pictures. I first rode that line on April 30, 1967. That was the day that the Aldene Plan went into effect and passenger trains of the Jersey Central began operating over the tracks of the Lehigh Valley Railroad. The LV's own passenger service had ended several years earlier but I finally got a chance to ride a train on its track. They even put a passenger schedule page back into the LV Employee Timetable. Well in my descriptive on K532, I mistakenly called the gantlet track as Track 1, the gantlet is Track 2, and from CP NK (adjacent to Hunter Interlocking, Amtrak NEC) to CP ALDENE west of Roselle Park (junction of the Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line and the NJT Raritan Valley Line) this line is controlled by Conrail North Jersey Dispatcher based in Mt. Laurel NJ. Conrail North Jersey also controls the Lehigh to a point just west of Manville, where the CSX Trenton Sub splits to the south and the NS Lehigh Line continues west towards Allentown and Reading, CSX NI Dispatcher in Albany controls the Trenton Sub, and the NS Lehigh Line Dispatcher controls the Lehigh Line westward.On NJT from CP ALDENE to High Bridge, NJ Rail Coast Line Dispatcher oversees things. They also control the North Jersey Coast Line. |
